Which Pedalboard Do I Need?

Use this tool to narrow down which of our models might be the best fit for your rig.

(See notes below for how the tool handles different pedal sizes and other details)

Once you've got an idea about which model might work, check out our notes below on using Pedal Playground to plan a more accurate board layout. Finally, feel free check out our Customer Gallery to see finished builds on a variety of board sizes.

Pedal Size - We're using a standard effect pedal size of roughly 2.5" x 4.5", with a bit extra for jacks. If you use a lot of top-jacks or mini pedals, you might fit onto a smaller model. For larger pedals, count them as multiple standard-sized ones. A large Strymon or an HX Stomp takes up roughly the same space as two standard-sized side-jack pedals, while a smaller Strymon or a Boss 200-series can be counted as one and a half. So for example, if your setup uses three large pedals and four standard pedals, you could enter a total count of ten (2+2+2+1+1+1+1). For reference, here are the number of standard pedals which fit across a full upper deck of each size pedalboard: P14/X14 - 4 pedals, P20/X20 - 6 pedals, P26/X26 - 8 pedals, P31 - 9 pedals.

Visible Pedals - This refers to all the non-hidden pedals which can fit on the pedalboard. On a P-Series pedalboard, each of them can be easily reached by foot. On an X-Series pedalboard (which works well with switchers/loopers and MIDI controllers), the back row of pedals sit a little further away. They can still be accessed by foot or by hand to quickly adjust settings.

Under-Deck Pedals - Pedals which are always-on or controlled by a switcher can be stored below the upper deck. For our space estimates we've assumed you'll be using one of the side-wall ports for an I/O 6 junction box, and we've reserved some room for a power supply.

Wah/Exp/Vol Pedals  - Our standard pedalboard deck cutaways are designed to fit the classic Vox/CryBaby body style. Pedals can be mounted permanently on pedalboards with cutaway decks, or can be played externally on Full Deck models (leaving more room for effect pedals) and stored inside the lid of P-Series models using our optional Stowaway Lid Brackets for travel. Both options are shown.

If your pedal is larger, contact us for custom options. If you have a smaller pedal (Dunlop Mini, DOD, etc.), consider storing it under a Full Deck model with our Stowaway Straps. In this case, count it as an Under-Deck Pedal (or a Visible Pedal), rather than a Wah/Exp/Vol Pedal.

Tip: First tally up your total space required and try entering the full number as Visible Pedals. Then, if you use a switcher or have some always-on pedals, try breaking up your total into combinations of Visible and Under-Deck Pedals and see if a more compact/portable model is possible.

This tool is for reference only, please check the exact dimensions given for each model and lay out your pedals accordingly to ensure they will be a good fit.

Pedal Playground

Pedal Playground is a fantastic tool for pedalboard planning, allowing you to create a virtual pedalboard and fill it with nearly any pedal. Both X-Series and P-Series pedalboards can be selected in Pedal Playground.

Linked images are available below which show dimensions and important space considerations on the lower deck for each model. Areas outlined in solid red must aways be left open, while areas dotted in red may or may not be available depending on which connectivity options you are planning. This is where our I/O 6 Junction box or AUX 3 plate get mounted into the side wall of the pedalboard. If you're using a cutaway deck model, remember to leave an open area on the upper deck (a custom sized pedal can be placed there as a reminder). Cutaway deck models, as well as large Full Deck models (X26, P26, and P31) will also have a small deck support installed in the base to the immediate left of the deck cutaway. The area between the cutaway and the side wall fits one standard size top-jack pedal. Lastly, be sure to leave appropriate space between your pedals for jacks (especially for large MIDI or XLR jacks).
